Best Class for a Templar

Best Class for a Templar
Templars as followers are among the most versatile and beneficial, but they aren’t perfect for every class. So it’s good to know which is the best class for a Templar before you start equipping and leveling up a Templar.
There are a few things to keep in mind here, starting with what you character already has and what they need to be effective in battle. A monk, for example, has a number of heals and bubbles to stay alive in combat – if you have specced that way, a Templar offers many redundancies whereas a Scoundrel would offer things you don’t have.
Deciding Which is the Best Class for a Templar
The real question here isn’t what is the best class for a Templar but for which classes the Templar is a good selection. After all, your first decision will be your class and not your follower. So, here are some things to keep in mind.
First, consider the range issue. As a Demon Hunter, for example, you need to stay back from your opponents at all times. But, you don’t have pets like a Witch Doctor or massive spells like a Wizard to make that happen. You must by sly and cunning and having a hulking guy in armor taking hits for you is a great way to supplement that cunning.
The same is partially true for both the Wizard and in some rare cases (if you spec in Physical Realm), the Witch Doctor. A Templar can be a good buff to a Barbarian who’s having trouble maintaining enough Life, but rarely does a Monk need the extra healing or protection defensively.
So Which Is the Best Class for a Templar?
In my opinion, it has to be the Demon Hunter. As a Demon Hunter you lack many of the defensive skills needed to stay alive when someone closes into melee. Yes, you do have a melee weapon and yes you can use your traps and burn cooldowns to get away, but the Templar offers some great supplements in the form of Intervene and Intimidate that will give you a lot of time to regain distance and resume fire.
Wizards are similarly a good match for Templars, especially those who focus on ranged attack spells and very little defense. And of course, healing can be beneficial to any class if Life becomes an issue.
