There are many benefits of a Templar as your follower in Diablo III. But, how those benefits play out and which classes they offer the most substantial benefits to will vary quite a bit. So, to help you select the right follower for your class and ensure you get the most out of your Templar when you use him, here are some important benefits of a Templar and when they will come in handy.
Key Benefits of a Templar
Templars are melee fighters and therefore offer a few important bonuses that the other two followers do not. To start with, your follower can heal you. In fact, the Templar has three different skills to heal or regenerate your health, along with a bubble spell of sorts to taunt enemies off of you when you get low on health.
Heals
Heal is available at level 5 and provides a simple 2030 Life heal (level 60) with a 15 second cooldown. This is fantastic for almost any class, even the Monk who already has a number of heals of his own. If you are interested in getting the most out of your Templar’s healing capabilities, there is also Loyalty which heals for 50 Life per Second and there is Guardian which provides a powerful charge to draw enemies away and then heal you for almost as much as (and in some cases more than) Heal.
Defensive Skills
Defensively, the Templar has a few tricks up his sleeve. Intervene and Intimidate are both powerful skills that draw an enemy away from you when your health is low and slow him down. This works on groups of mobs as well if you need time to recuperate. You’ll need to sacrifice both basic healing skills to get them, so they are usually best for characters in groups that need the taunting or for Monks who can already heal.
Attacks
In terms of attack skills, the Templar can Charge for a powerful weapon attack and stun over 3 seconds to an area of effect tor deal a single powerful blow with Onslaught for 200% weapon damage, PLUS physical damage. These are both Level 15 skills so you can only select one.
As you can see there are many benefits of a Templar being on your side. With added attack power, plenty of healing and some incredible defensive skills to save your bacon in a tough fight, the Templar is a grade A protector.
